Bears

We have been planning our Yosemite trip for years and the subject of bears came up...There will be no tent camping for sure!
But, what can you do if you come up on a bear?

• Do not run or make sudden movements.
• Back away slowly.
• Leave your pack on for added protection
• Talk quietly to the bear (do not shout), and avoid direct eye contact.
If you are attacked, the best strategy is to:
• Drop to the ground.
• Lie flat on your stomach.
• Clasp your hands behind your neck with your elbows planted firmly on the ground; use your toes and elbows to keep the bear from rolling you over.
• Lie still (resistance will only provoke the bear).

If you plan on putting up a fight....
Always remember that all bears do not play fair and you can expect a low blow at anytime...Anyone have any experiences with bears?

I did a Grizzly Bear adventure a few years ago. I found the best thing was to let the bears be on the shore while we viewed from a boat!!

Nice post.

Just somethin' to keep in the back of yer' head. You don't have to outrun the bear, just yer' partner. And they'll both be slippin' on what I'm leavin' behind anyhow.
