Patriotic Reminders

Art Donovan and some Marines reciting the Declaration of Independence Super Bowl Sunday and other events that day that seemed to remind us that we are all in this together...Donovan is a Marine also and is quite the character when on stage.  Reminds me of watching him and the old Baltimore Colts at a very young age.

Then comes this post by Judy of  Travels with Emma fame  and she describes her visit to a Vietnam Memorial .....quite the tribute and well written......then I reflect on my time over there and I am reminded of this song:

16 years old when I went to war,
To fight for a land fit for heroes,
God on my side, and a gun in my hand,
Chasing my days down to zero,
And I marched and I fought and I bled and I died,
And I never did get any older,
But I knew at the time that a year in the line,
Is a long enough life for a soldier,
And we brawled and we fought and we fought 'til we stood,
Ten thousand shoulder to shoulder,
A thirst for the Hun, we were food for the gun,
And that's what you are when you're soldiers,

I heard my friend cry, and he sank to his knees,
Coughing blood as he screamed for his mother,
And I fell by his side, and that's how we died,
Clinging like kids to each other

Its about WWI and trench warfare... but far more about the experiences of war.
I will be more fun the next post so lets help out where we can and God Bless the USA!!

We need to remember our warriors on days other than Memorial Day and Veteran's Day.

War is not pretty...
